Thematic issue: labour market issues, employment and unemployment in the context of rural areas
Deadline: 30 June 2026
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to a thematical issue of the quarterly journal “Wieś i Rolnictwo” (Village and Agriculture), which will be devoted to issues of the labour market, employment and unemployment in the context of rural areas.
The planned issue will focus on changes in the world of work in rural areas and small towns, from structural, institutional and social perspectives. We are particularly interested in articles in Polish or English addressing, amongst other things, the following topics:
· the specific characteristics of labour markets in rural areas and their regional diversity,
· employment and unemployment in rural areas in the context of demographic change, migration and population ageing,
· access to work, labour market services and employment policies in rural areas,
· the role of public employment services, local institutions and territorial partnerships,
· non-standard work, multiple jobholding, care work and informal work in rural areas,
· the impact of the energy, digital and green transitions on employment in rural areas,
· social and occupational exclusion of rural residents and instruments to counteract this phenomenon
· and all other topics relating to similar issues.
The rural labour market is crucial because it enables residents to stay in their local areas, supports the local economy and generates income for the community. Providing jobs in rural areas combats depopulation, preserves traditions and strengthens the country’s food security. Furthermore, it promotes social integration, the development of local residents’ skills and increases the regional economy’s resilience to crises.
We would be delighted if you would like to contribute to this issue and join the debate on the contemporary challenges of the labour market in rural areas.
