Abstract

Social and professional advancement of women is blocked by many barriers. Women earn less than men, even in the same positions, and less likely than men they perform management. Low is also their participation in the local government. The study identifies two examples of women overcoming barriers that limit their social and professional advancement. These are: the results of elections to local government councils in Mazowieckie and the comparison of the national average wage levels for men and women. In successive term elections, the participation of women in municipal, district and provincial councils is increasing. The disparities of wages paid for women and men declined in favor of women, although to a small extent.
